Spicy beef

Origin of dish:  Exotic
Type of cooking:  Hob
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 7 minutes
Ingredients (serves 5):

    Approx 600g steak
    1 egg
    2 tablespoon flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup peanut oil
    1 teaspoon fresh ginger
    1 clove garlic
    1 diced carrot
    2 sticks celery
    1 onion, diced
    1 tablespoon sesame oil

    1 tablespoon port
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1 tablespoon chilli sauce
    1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
    2 tablespoon soy sauce
    2 tablespoon water


Slice meat.
Mix egg, flour and salt together in a bowl.
Add beef and leave to marinate for 30 minutes.
Heat 1/2 cup oil in a wok and cook beef for two minutes.
Remove from pan and put to one side.
Add peanut oil to wok, then garlic and ginger and leave to cook for 30 seconds.
Add carrot and celery, leave to cook for two more minutes.
Add sauce and onion.
Finally, add beef and cook for a further minute.
Serve with basmati rice or noodles.
Advice: Recommended wines:
Fruity reds: Beaujolais, Saumur Champigny, Brouilly
Rosés: Rosé de Provence, Bandol, Tavel
Whites: Tokay d'Alsace, Gewustraminer
