Origin of dish:  North America
Type of cooking:  Oven
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ingredients (serves 10):

    200g/7oz butter, softened
    200g/7oz golden caster sugar
    1/2 tsp vanilla essence
    1 large egg
    225g/8oz plain flour
    pinch of salt
    1tsp bicarbonate of soda
    115g/4oz white chocolate chips
    115g/4oz plain chocolate chips
    buttermilk (if needed)

1-Beat butter, sugar and vanilla essence together in a large bowl. Gradually beat in the egg until batter is light and fluffy.

2-Sift the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda over batter and fold in, then fold in chocolate chips.
(If batter is very dry add a tbsp of buttermilk)

3-Drop dessertspoonfuls of the batter onto 2 greased baking sheets, allowing room for expansion during cooking.

4-Bake in preheated oven, 180°C/350°F for 10-12 minutes or until crisp on the outside but still soft inside, cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Advice: Buttermilk is only needed if the batter seems too dry, I found this when the egg wasn't large enough and added buttermilk as I had some left from making muffins and my boys said they were the best I had ever made. Good enough for me!!!
